Helping or giving to the poor is not just being nice, it's beyond that. As blessings/a promise follows every biblical command so it is with giving to the poor. Jesus makes it clear in Luke 14:12-14 that there is a blessing specifically for helping the needy...and Jesus also makes it clear that we will always have the poor with us (Matthew 26:11).
